Bucconeer Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) List

I. Memberships

• Q: Can I send in my credit card membership payment via e-mail?
• A: No. We cannot accept memberships via electronic mail. Credit cards are accepted by mail or at our Fan Tables at conventions that we attend.

• Q: What do I get for my membership?
• A: Supporting members will receive all available publications, may nominate and vote for the 1998 Hugo awards, select the 1999 Hugo awards nominees, and vote for the site of the 2001 Worldcon (after paying the voting fee).

  Attending members have the additional right to attend all five days of Bucconeer and the 1998 World Science Fiction Society business meeting.

  Children do not receive any publications (except for any special child-oriented publications we may send) and do not include any voting privileges (except for any child-oriented awards we may organize), but may attend Bucconeer as long as they are accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult at all times. Children's memberships will also include access to babysitting, but we have not determined how many hours will be included in the membership; additional hours of babysitting will be available for purchase.

• Q: I already have a supporting membership, but I want to attend.
• A: You can convert your supporting membership into an attending membership by paying the difference between a supporting and an attending membership at the time you're converting your membership. You would subtract $30 (the cost of a supporting membership) from the cost of an attending membership (currently $110) to get a conversion rate of $80.

II. Dealers' Room

• Q: How can I reserve tables in the Dealers' Room?
• A: We are accepting deposits of $50 per table to reserve up to five tables. A deposit merely puts you on the Dealers mailing list, just like an inquiry does. There are no guarantees of acceptance into the Bucconeer Dealers' Room. Final decisions probably won't be made until early 1998. If you are not selected, your deposit will be refunded.

  To reserve space, send a check or money order payable to Bucconeer or credit card information (account holder name, account number, and expiration date) for Visa, MasterCard (Access), or American Express to Bucconeer, P.O. Box 314, Annapolis Junction, Maryland 20701 USA. If you wish to pay in British pounds sterling, send a cheque or money order to John Dallman, c/o EDS Unigraphics, Parker's House, 46 Regent Street, Cambridge, CB2 IDB, GB. Include a letter telling us how many tables you're reserving, your real name, business name, postal address, telephone number(s), e-mail address(es), and a detailed description of the type of merchandise you plan to sell.

• Q: How many memberships do I get with my tables?
• A: None. You will need to purchase attending memberships for anyone who will be working at your table during Bucconeer.

• Q: How much will the tables cost?
• A: We don't know yet, but if you're on the Dealers mailing list, we'll let you know as soon as the price has been set.

III. Volunteers

• Q: How can I volunteer to work on Bucconeer?
• A: Send us a letter or e-mail with your name, address, and e-mail address and we'll send you our Volunteer Questionnaire. Or stop by our table at a con near you, or drop by one of our committee meetings.

• Q: If I'm a volunteer, do I have to purchase a membership?
• A: Yes. Everyone except for our Guests of Honor must purchase an attending membership. If we have a surplus after the convention is over, your membership fee will be refunded if you worked at least the minimum number of hours. (The exact number of hours has not yet been determined, but we'll let you know once it has.)

IV. Programming

• Q: I'm an author/artist/editor/scientist/fan and I'd like to be on the program.
• A: Great. Our programming team will be sending out invitations in early 1998. We'll keep your name and address on file if you send us a letter telling us what your interests are and how we can contact you.

• Q: If I'm on the program, do I have to purchase a membership?
• A: Yes. Everyone except for our Guests of Honor must purchase an attending membership. However, if we have a surplus after the convention is over, your membership fee will be refunded if you were on the program.

V. Art Show

• Q: I'm an artist and want to exhibit my art at Bucconeer.
• A: Send us a letter with your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. We'll let you know once we have more details about the Art Show.
