Live From The BSFS Clubhouse

Michael Nelson, Pre-Con Pubs Editor

JUNE 13, 1998—I’m sitting at the end of a plank overhanging the main meeting space of the Baltimore Science Fiction Society’s cavernous clubhouse—home port for the Pirates of Fenzance.

Below me, as I edit this article on a spiffy new Omnibook notebook computer (part of a generous loan of computer equipment from the Hewlett-Packard Company), Holographic Outbound Mail Guru Sam Pierce (filling in for Mike Mannes) is directing a horde of loyal crew fen as they stuff Progress Report Four into envelopes. ("Step lively now, put your backs into applying those address labels!") Tomorrow, I will mail the Broadside Six master to Dale Arnold, our Speaker to Printer. So, this is truly late-breaking news.

Internet Lounge
Bucconeer will host an Internet Lounge in the Convention Center near the registration area. We expect to have about 20 computers with speedy Internet access, as well as connections for notebook computers.  Remember that logging into your e-mail account requires knowing some basics (your login name and password and your account’s smtp and pop addresses).  Unfortunately, technical incompatibilities will probably prevent direct access to America Online.  Questions?  Comments?  Send e-mail to: internet.lounge@bucconeer.worldcon.org.

Programming News

John Pomeranz, Programming
Division Manager

We're putting the finishing touches on an entertaining, exciting, and educational program for the Worldcon! As of June 15th, we have over 300 people scheduled to participate on the program in more than 500 program items. Many thanks to those of you who suggested program ideas and to the many interesting and talented people who volunteered to be on the program. We had enough people and ideas to fill two Worldcons, and we’re sorry we didn’t have time and space for everything!

The program for Bucconeer is now in draft form and available for you to view on our website. Please note that this is NOT the final version of the program! We expect to make many changes as our program participants review the draft schedules that we recently sent to them.

If you have any comments or suggestions related to Bucconeer Programming, you can contact us at our postal address or prog@bucconeer.worldcon.org.
